The HP OfficeJet 3830 All-In-One ($79.99) printer, an early-stage all-in-one (AIO) inkjet, is a powerful machine, but like many AIO's in this class, including the more expensive Canon Pixma TR8520 Wireless All-In-One Home Office Printer, Our Editor's Choice, has many formidable competitors. Unlike the Canon TR8520, OfficeJet 3830 does not support two-sided printing, Ethernet networks, flash memory devices, and some other important features. What OfficeJet 3830 has to offer is that not only does it cost less than canon models, but it's also cheaper to use — as long as you choose HP's Instant Inkprogram subscription, that is. OfficeJet 3830 prints well, and it's a good alternative to the Canon TR8520 for low volume printing and copying in a small office or home or student dormitory.
Many Machines for Money
When it comes to business-oriented AIO printers, OfficeJet 3830s are certainly one of the cheapest. At 8.5 times 17.2 by 14.3 inches (HWD) and 12.4 pounds, it's about the same size as some other petite business-oriented inkjets. The Canon TR8520, for example, is actually slightly smaller, but weighs about five pounds heavier than the OfficeJet 3830. Brother's MFC-J985DW, another top choice, is an inch or two smaller in all directions, but weighs about six pounds heavier than the OfficeJet 3830.
